Renowned Musical Masters of Blues, Latin, Perform LIVE for Select Dates
StringShot is Roy Rogers, Badi Assad & Carlos Reyes
October 16, 2019 (Northern Calif.)-The cross-cultural sound of slide guitar master Roy Rogers, Brazilian guitar goddess Badi Assad, and harp/violin virtuoso Carlos Reyes, returns LIVE to the West Coast for select fall dates. Kicking off their tour Halloween night at The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, StringShot brings mesmerizing performances born of world music influences from around the world. Combining Latin, Blues and Jazz disciplines, the trio takes audiences to a new musical realm. As proven in their self-titled 2018 album release, StringShot defies genres, offering deeply inspired grooves that capture an audience from the very first note. In sight and sound, StringShot is an immersive experience that offers a chance to witness the passionate interplay between three masters of their instruments who have formed a musical “tour-de-force”.
Ranked by Rolling Stone as one of the top female guitarists, Badi Assad has received numerous international awards in her career. Assad is from musical royalty (Brazil’s acclaimed Assad family). She has appeared in a variety of musical settings – from classical concerts with The Assad Brothers to jazz festivals with Pat Metheny and Larry Coryell – and performed with a variety of artists including Bobby McFerrin, Yo-Yo-Ma, and Sarah McLaughlin. As a vocalist and percussionist, she is a true innovator, not only in technique but in performance. As a guitarist, she has inspired audiences and critics worldwide with a unique combination of technical mastery and innovation that has caused some to re-examine their notions about the instrument.
On stage from the age of five, Carlos Reyes is world-renowned for his mastery of the Paraguayan harp and violin. From performances on the streets of Havana to the Vatican, his music transcends all boundaries. Well-known for his supreme virtuosity, he has often taken his instruments into new territory, both as a player and a fearless collaborator. Classically trained, Reyes has performed in his own band, symphonies, and as a featured performer with a long list of musical icons including Steve Miller, The Doobie Brothers, Gloria Estefan, Willie Nelson, Zac Brown, and Arturo Sandoval.
Roy Rogers is considered one of today’s preeminent slide guitarists. With decades of performing and producing under his belt, Rogers is an eight-time Grammy nominee. He has produced recordings for John Lee Hooker and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott; and worked collaboratively with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Ray Manzarek, Carlos Santana, Sammy Hagar, Steve Miller, and Linda Ronstadt. Rogers’ music is credited on several television shows and movie soundtracks, most notably “The Hot Spot”, along with Miles Davis and Taj Mahal. Recognized as one of the world’s great slide guitarists, Roy Rogers continues to perform worldwide with his band, the Delta Rhythm Kings.

Music Heals: A benefit concert for the community affected by the Camp Fire
By: Rachel Zirin, Senior Reporter
The devastation from the Camp Fire will be felt throughout the communities affected for a VERY long time.
MUSIC HEALS at Harris Center in Folsom is one of the many benefit concerts organized for the sole purpose of providing funds directly to the families that have endured the most destructive fire in California State history.
The proceeds from this concert will be sent directly to the North Valley Community Foundation – 501 (C) (3) in Chico.
Please visit the NVCF website at nvcf.org for information regarding the efforts being made to support the families impacted by this tragic disaster.
When the doors open for this event, beer and wine will be available for purchase prior to the show and during intermission. Our non-profit partner managing this beverage service will also donate these proceeds to NVCF!
Please join us for this fantastic night of music featuring some of the best Blues and Americana musicians from California! MUSIC HEALS welcomes: Laurie Morvan Band, Tom Rigney & Flambeau, Daniel Castro, Mighty-Mike Schermer and Special Guest Roy Rogers!
morvan
Laurie Morvan Band is a 5-piece high energy, rockin’ blues band lead by its fiery female lead guitarist/vocalist. This tight-as-nails machine from Long Beach has fired up over 70 festivals and 700 shows together throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Laurie’s much anticipated 6th CD “GRAVITY”, released this year, was an immediate hit with both fans and critics. “Morvan has all the soulfulness of Bonnie Raitt and the swaggering, muscular guitar tone of Stevie Ray Vaughan” –News Gazette.
rigney
Tom Rigney is one of the premier Roots Music fiddle players on the planet. His band–Tom Rigney & Flambeau– specializes in blazing Cajun two-steps, low-down Blues, funky New Orleans grooves, Boogie Woogie piano, and heartbreakingly beautiful ballads and waltzes. Much of the repertoire is composed by Rigney, but they mix in a few classics from the Cajun/New Orleans songbook. Along the way you may pick up a trace of Rigney’s Irish roots, or echoes of Eastern Europe — it just makes the musical gumbo that much tastier! Rigney’s high-energy showmanship pulls the audience into his performances and makes them feel they are a part of the music and the show.
castro
Describing Daniel Castro as a blues artist doesn’t begin to tell the whole story. A highly accomplished guitarist and singer/songwriter with a strong musical point of view grounded in the very best blues traditions is more like it. Combine those talents with original blues-based material and you begin to understand Daniel’s strengths as an artist. “He’s got that real deal feel. Daniel Castro is a great musician and entertainer.” — Elvin Bishop
schermer
Mighty-Mike Schermer was a fixture on the Bay Area blues scene for over 20 years when he relocated to Austin TX in 2009 and joined the touring band of swamp-boogie piano legend Marcia Ball. He carved out a solid solo career, with four critically acclaimed CD’s and award winning single and thousands of performances at festivals and nightclubs the world over. He also became the “go to guy” sideman for such heavyweights as Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Angela Strehli, Bonnie Raitt, Howard Tate, Charlie Musselwhite, Sista Monica, Shana Morrison and many more. Oh yes…we may be judged by the company we keep, but when the spotlight shines a solo artist must be able to bring the goods all on his own. Mighty-Mike Schermer delivers on all fronts.
Rogers
“Roy Rogers means the modern master in the art of slide guitar…His versatility with the technique is nothing short of astonishing.” — All Music Guide Virtuoso slide guitarist and Grammy nominated songwriter/producer and recording artist Roy Rogers remains defiantly upbeat on his 12th solo album Into the Wild Blue. Even though 64 year-old Rogers has lost longtime friends like blues legend John Lee Hooker, his recent recording partner of eight years, Ray Manzarek of The Doors, as well as his younger brother Robert – he says “life’s too short” to wallow in our grief or what we have lost. “I want to celebrate life through my music.” Into The Wild Blue wails, squawks, stomps and boogies with authenticity — ready for the open road and the live stage. Years of working with the likes of John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt, Carlos Santana, Sammy Hagar and Steve Miller has given him a pop musicality.
Tickets for the MUSIC HEALS benefit can be purchased at www.harriscenter.net. Tickets priced at $30, $40, $50 (Premium) and will go on sale Fri., December 14th. Doors open at 6PM, Show 7PM – Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Harris Center for the Arts.

Blues ring true for Elvin Bishop, Marcia Ball and Roy Rogers
by Tim Parsons - Tahoe OnStage
Hey, that was fun!
Elvin Bishop’s Big Fun Trio, Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings and Marcia Ball had everyone smiling, singing and dancing Saturday night in Lake Tahoe’s largest indoor music venue. The onstage setup was informal, with Bishop and his pals seated and improvising songs.
It might seem hard to fathom, but when Ball and Rogers played with Bishop’s trio, the tunes were unrehearsed. Then again, they are some of the best musicians in the land.
Percussionist and singer Willy Jordan and guitarist/keyboard player Bob Welsh are Bishop’s partners in the Big Fun Trio. Welsh and Bishop’s synchronized electric guitar harmonies were magnificent. Jordan, who Bishop calls a “soulful dude,” often sang high falsettos as he sat atop his cajon drum box. READ MORE
